Susan Winton

It makes me very sad having to note on this page that the wonderful artist Susan Winton died on 15 May 2020. She left behind loving memories in the people lucky enough to have met her and enjoy her inspiring workshops. And a legacy of amazing work. I’ve decided to keep her artist profile up so website visitors can see a selection of her work.

Scottish artist Susan WintonAbout me

I trained at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee and at Hospitalfield House. I am the owner of Cobalt Contemporary Art Gallery in Pittenweem and exhibit regularly at the Royal Scottish Academy, Society of Scottish Artists, Edinburgh, the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, and the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts. Winning the Richard Demarco prize at the Scottish Painting Competition was one of my highlights. My work is in several collections. Inspired by my roots in North East Scotland and my ties to the Shetland Islands, my subject matter includes the wild and rugged coastline contrasting with the tamed nature of the countryside. I use an amalgam of media and techniques which mix old and new technologies.

Susan is so inspiring and encouraging. I will take away many useful techniques and have more confidence 🙂

All ideas have potential for expression, so it’s about trying out something new and innovative, and about stretching your expressive language to the limit. {Susan Winton}
