Immersive Creative Experiences in Scotland
*This trip is now fully booked and we’re started a waiting list in case anyone changes their mind or cannot join for some reason.
Spring is a wonderful time on the Isle of Skye when nature is waking up after the winter and the island isn’t too busy with tourists yet. This immersive experience with Skye artist Liz Myhill will take you to the island’s hidden treasures as well as some of its truly iconic locations. Liz is an award winning Scottish wildlife and landscape artist whose work evokes her encounters with the natural world. Through a combination of exploring different locations, working in the landscape and studio work you can immersive yourself in the spirit of Skye and find your own sense of place.
Nature is never still, there is constant movement, change and flux – it’s what makes it fascinating and challenging to draw in equal measure. In this workshop we’ll aim to find freedom in mark-making, challenge some of our habits or ideas and rekindle the excitement and joy of discovery. Each of the workshop days combines excursions and exploring with studio time. We’ll enjoy the rare luxury of having round-the-clock studio access, as the bright and spacious room that is usually the hotel restaurant serves as our studio space.
Working outside on location we’ll look at different ways to engage with the landscape and natural world, including practical tips for kit as well as capturing a constantly changing or moving subject.
Studio time will allow for the development of ideas, bringing your own personal expression into work and guidance to continue your creative journey either in the studio or in the great outdoors. For the workshop we’ll be using mixed media on paper. Some workshop materials will be provided and we’ll also send you a list of recommended materials to bring.

Locations we plan to visit include:
Harlosh Point
Oronsay island tombola beach
Waternish farm
Quirang from Flodigarry and around north road
Torrin
Sleat
You will also have opportunities to learn about the local community and their vibrant creative lives on visits to local studios. The itinerary includes a free day half way through with an optional trip to the island’s main village Portree.

Liz Myhill RSW SWLA is a Scottish artist whose observational works are gathered through working ‘en plein air’ directly from life. A deep-rooted connection to her native Isle of Skye and the rugged landscape of the Highlands and Islands continues to shape her life and work, providing a wealth of inspiration.
Liz studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee and has since exhibited her work throughout the UK, regularly showing with societies such as the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour and Society of Wildlife Artists. She has received a number of awards including an international Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation Award and in 2021 received the Swarovski Optik and Birdwatch Bird Artist of the Year Award. In 2017 she was elected to the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour with whom she has exhibited both nationally and internationally and in 2023 was elected to the Society of Wildlife Artists.
Liz now splits her time between Highland Perthshire and the Isle of Skye as well as numerous field trips throughout the year to work directly in the midst of some of Scotland’s finest wildlife and landscapes.

The Isle of Skye is the largest island in the Inner Hebrides archipelago and famous for its raw, elemental drama, rich culture, ancient history and outstanding scenery. When exploring you’ll find incredible beauty around every bend of the road.

That’s wonderful, Zuzanne! I’ve just emailed you 🙂
Your notification stated that you are already fully booked. When should I apply for the next opportunity? It was suggested to be placed on a waiting list for possible cancellations for 2026. If I were to do that what deposit requirements are there? How do I get on a notification list of upcoming events soon enough to sign up before they are booked full? Thank you for any information you can send.
Dear Jane, no deposit is required for the waiting list for March 2026. I’ve noted your interest in a 2027 Skye painting trip and will email you as soon as we know the dates and prices. Best regards. Ute
