Creative Experiences in Scotland
My paintings have a spontaneity which captures a moment in time: the essence of a place or the ephemeral colour of wild flowers recently gathered from the shoreline. My subject matter is transformed by the intensity of the colour combinations, often juxtaposing or layering complimentary colours to create a ‘sensory vibration’. While working with raw pigment mixed with oil onto canvas I create a rich tapestry of colour & luminosity of light.
While living & painting in Edinburgh I also spend time traveling in search of new challenges & inspiration for my paintings. I have been the recipient of many prestigious awards including the British Institute Fund, Italian Government Scholarship & the Tigh Alisdair Ruaraidh Residency which introduced me to the Hebridean islands. Further afield, my travels have taken me to Asia where the colours & culture of the east have influenced my paintings and simplicity of composition.
Since completing my post graduate studies at the Royal Academy Schools,
London, I have been painting full time as a professional artist and lectured in
London, Florence and Auckland. I have exhibited abroad and in the UK where my paintings have attracted widespread attention and can be found in corporate and private collections in the UK, Italy, Barbados, the Americas, Hong Kong and Australasia.

While working directly from nature my mode of teaching is very much designed towards the individuals interest of expression and to develop and expand their painting experience and use of colour and composition.
The studio can be a solitary place and I enjoy teaching and doing workshops, meeting and inspiring people to be creative and to expand their gifts and potential. And in turn they inspire me!
