What to expect

This art retreat is at the same time a small group experience and a private workshop. There is no set artistic theme, but daily personalised tuition tailored to participants’ preferences, ability and development interests. The sketchbook will be the fundamental tool from which to create your works of art.

The course is designed to encourage gathering what attracts you from the landscape – with a grounding in shape, form and texture, looking and re-looking at light and shadow, and using usual and unusual materials to record images and feelings.

Karen is an enthusiastic and stimulating tutor, with a deep knowledge of drawing, painting and printmaking. With her inspiring artistic guidance we’ll be researching and sketching on location most days, then return to the comfort of the studio  to develop our images and composition. You may want to bring your favourite brushes and paints, but there will also be a variety of materials to choose from. Check out Karen’s profile page here.

During the week we will make maximum use of the hotel’s gardens and beaches, but also take short journeys to nearby locations.
